Mercedes Schlapp has no easy task in her position in the role of White House adviser for strategic communication. The White House's strategic communications advisor Mercedes Schlapp has faced a myriad of issues. They include Presidents who has his own director of communications and multiple legal disputes that could disrupt the messaging strategy. Schlapp has kept her focus throughout, by working closely with White House policy and political teams, along with the shop owners and the legislative affairs department. The focus has been on issues like the safety of schools, opioids, infrastructure, and trade. She does not interact much with media outlets in the job she has. But she drew a burst of interest in March, after her name was suggested as a potential replacement Hope Hicks as communications director. Mercedes Schlapp has a tough task in her position as the White House's advisor on strategic communications. She's faced with a president that acts as his own communications director and a myriad of legal disputes that could sabotage the White House's strategy for messaging and Cabinet secretaries who are caught in their own controversy. But through it all Schlapp is focussed on the task at hand, working closely with White House's political and legislative affairs teams and policy shops, as well with the larger communications team to coordinate policy rollouts. The focus of her work has been on areas like security at schools, opioids, infrastructure, as well as trade. Schlapp isn't involved with journalists frequently in her current job. The issue came up in March when she received a flurry of attention, when it became known that Schlapp would be the next candidate to take over Hope Hicks's post as director of communication. The fight has been bitter. The allies of Schlapp and Tony Sayegh began to joust with the media. Schlapp made a call to Sayegh when the Washington Examiner printed a bad article about the former president.
